Effective Prompt Engineering Frameworks for Email Marketing Success
Here’s a topic that’s been buzzing in my brain lately: prompt crafting aka prompt engineering (who came up with that term anyway?).
Now, I know what you’re thinking – “Another AI thing?” But trust me, this is one skill that’s going to make your life so much easier, especially when it comes to cranking out those email campaigns we all love (and sometimes love to hate).
Remember when I talked about dedicating just 10 minutes a day to refining your prompts? Well, today we’re taking it up a notch with some nifty frameworks that’ll help you craft prompts like a pro. And the best part? These work whether you’re writing emails, brainstorming campaign ideas, or just trying to get ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini to understand what the heck you’re asking.
Let’s break down a few of these frameworks with some email marketing examples:
APE (Action, Purpose, Expectation)
Example: “Write an email subject line (Action) to promote our summer sale (Purpose) that will increase our open rates by 20% (Expectation).”
CARE (Context, Action, Result, Example)
Example: “For our B2B software company (Context), create an email nurture sequence (Action) that guides leads through the sales funnel (Result). Here’s an example of our current welcome email: [insert example].”
GUIDE (Goal, User, Instructions, Detail, Examples)
Example: “Design an email template (Goal) for our millennial subscribers (User) that showcases our new eco-friendly product line (Instructions). Include space for product images and a clear CTA button (Detail). Here are some examples of emails our audience has responded well to in the past: [insert examples].”
RACE (Role, Action, Context, Expectation)
Example: “As a customer success manager (Role), draft a re-engagement email (Action) for subscribers who haven’t opened our emails in 6 months (Context), aiming to bring back at least 10% of these inactive subscribers (Expectation).”
TAG (Task, Action, Goal)
Example: “Create an A/B test (Task) by writing two different email body copies (Action) to determine which messaging resonates better with our audience (Goal).”
The best part? These frameworks aren’t just for show. They help you think critically about what you’re asking AI, leading to more accurate, on-point responses. It’s like having a super-smart intern who actually understands what you need the first time around.
But hey, don’t just take my word for it. Why not give them a spin yourself? And if you’re itching to dive deeper into this stuff, I’ve got just the thing for you.
