Work Smarter, Not Harder: Uncover AI Opportunities to Enhance Email Marketing
Inspired by a LinkedIn post I read recently, here’s a fresh take on how to uncover AI opportunities in your email marketing workflow.
Ever feel like you’re stuck in a rut, doing the same old tasks day in and day out? Maybe you’re even starting to resent parts of your job. Don’t worry, you’re not alone. Many of us fall into this trap, especially when we’re juggling multiple responsibilities. But what if I told you there’s a way to rediscover the joy in your work and even start enjoying the tasks you once dreaded?
Nicole Leffer recently shared a brilliant exercise on LinkedIn that helps you identify new opportunities to use AI at work, and simultaneously boost your job satisfaction. I was so inspired by her post that I wanted to share my own take on it, specifically tailored for email marketers.
What you’ll need:
- Pen
- Paper (at least 2 pieces)
- 3 colors of highlighters
- Your phone to set a timer
What to do:
- Set a timer for 15 minutes. List everything you do in your job, big or small. Break down complex tasks into smaller steps. Keep writing until the timer goes off.
- Review your list and circle any task where AI might help. Don’t overthink it – if there’s even a slight chance, circle it.
- Use different highlighter colors to categorize how you feel about each task.
- Green: Tasks you love and wouldn’t change.
- Orange: Tasks you dislike or dread.
- Yellow: Tasks you feel neutral about.
- Create two columns on a fresh sheet of paper: “Dislike” and “Neutral.”
- Transfer all circled items highlighted orange to the “Dislike” column, and all circled items highlighted yellow to the “Neutral” column. Leave space between each item.
- Brainstorm how you could use AI for each item on the new sheet. Make notes in the space between items. It’s okay to say “I’m not sure.”
- Keep this paper visible at your desk. Next time you work on any task that’s on it, look at it and use AI instead of doing it the old way.
- Experiment and figure out how to use AI for tasks where you’re unsure.
- Create fill-in-the-blank templates after using AI for the first time, so you can reuse the prompts. (Check out my previous blog post on writing effective AI prompts for more on this).
As AI handles more tasks, you’ll find yourself spending more time on work you enjoy and less energy on things you don’t. You may even start liking the tasks you used to hate, once you’re doing them the new AI way.
AI Applications in Email Marketing
